We finally unpacked the last couple of boxes in the kids room yesterday. We haven't hung anything on the walls yet but here is a tour of Jordyn's room.
When Tracy and I first traveled here to Tennessee to interview for the job, we had dinner one evening at one of the elder's home. His wife served us this yummy pie that I have not stopped thinking about since we ate it!! I tried to find the recipe online after we got back home and was unsuccessful. Now that we are back - she kindly shared the recipe with me!! And I made it tonight so it's on my mind again! =) I thought I would share it because it is so yummy and there is no way you can mess it up. You can also make it in about 5 minutes! I don't have a name for it, any suggestions?
1 can sweetened condensed milk 8 oz. whipped topping 1/4 cup lemon juice 1 cup chopped pecans (I only had 1/2 cup and it turned out well) 1 cup cherry pie filling
Mix above ingredients together and put in a graham cracker crust. Freeze for about 2-3 hours. Eat!! You could also freeze overnight but you would want to let it thaw out a little in the fridge or on the before serving.
The only downside is that my kids wont touch it with the nuts and cherry chunks. So looks like it will be sitting in the fridge tempting me for a few days!
The kids and I went to an area home school support group carnival this morning. The kids had so much fun...I on the other hand was ready to pass out from the heat! It was so hot here today and there were so many people! We waited in lines for balloon animals, cotton candy, games, hot dogs...it was exhausting!! But so encouraging to see how many families home school in the area. There seemed to be a over a hundred people there. We signed up for a lot of field trips and are looking forward to connecting with people in the area. On a side note, I could defiantly use some prayer - this move has been so much harder than I was expecting and effecting me in ways I hadn't imagined. I feel so unmotivated to start school with the kids and am really missing my support group of friends. The kids are having a hard time adjusting as well. We are happy to be here and excited about many things - it's just one of those days!
We have been having a thunderstorm here almost every afternoon and yesterday's came with a downpour of rain! Jordyn had her swimsuit on already and took off in the rain as soon as we opened the door. I was the party pooper who made her come in when I started hearing the booming thunder - isn't that dangerous?
Trying out the lawn mower today. This is our front yard, looking out our dinning room window. I like how the neighbor across the street is out, too! The neighbor has their mower on the highest speed, though. They are just whipping that thing around. :-)
This is the storm door that my daughter ran (full steam, mind you) into last night when we were out on the deck. She had just seen her first firefly and was running in to call her brother. Knocked the wind out of her and put her flat on her back!! Her dad had to use a screwdriver to pry the door open, it was jammed in so far! Poor thing, although I was still giggling about it to myself long after going to bed last night!
Here are a few pictures from inside our new home. We only have two rooms unpacked for the most part, and nothing on the walls just yet. This is our kitchen, breakfast nook, living room, and the view down the split-level entrance. I will try to post more soon!! I would take some pics from outside but it's about 1000 degrees and we have been out all morning.... maybe tomorrow!
Hours driven: 7 States driven through: 3 (Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota)
We got up real early to be on the road by 7. We had a short driving day planned, just 5 hours. But ended up stopping for awhile at the Battlefield of Little Bighorn and that put us behind schedule. It was so worth it, though! We visited the site of the battle where General Custer fell and saw some of his actual clothing and artifacts in the museum. The kids were very impressed with all of it, we can't wait to check out our new library and find some books to read about the battle. We finally made it to Rapid City and after checking into the hotel and eating dinner, we headed out to Mt. Rushmore. It was so stinking hot!! We didn't stay long - if I wasn't so fat and pregnant we might have been able to do the guided tour. We ended up leaving after about 20 minutes or so. After we left the monument (and collected rocks on the roadside!) we went to the Crazy Horse memorial 17 miles away. They wanted $20 from us to park the car so we snapped a quick picture and did a u-turn out of there! M ore subjects to add to our library list! =) The brakes on the van started smoking on our way back out of the Black Hills so pray for safe driving tomorrow!! We are pretty sure it was due to the fact that it's about 100 degrees here and we have been using them A LOT today with all the mountains we have been traveling through. We didn't have a problem with them after they had a chance to cool down. So we are back at the hotel and ready for a good nights rest. We have a long drive tomorrow to Omaha - pray for our safety!!!
